tire Profiles Inc. Returns to the 2009 SEMA Show to unveil New Scanner
Tire Profiles, Inc. is introducing the newest version of the TAC-Scan family during the 2009 SEMA show at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
TAC-Scan Drive-Over will feature two TAC-Scan Laser systems mounted in a drive-over frame for Gas Island, Service drive-thru lanes and fleet applications.
It is configured to measure dual wheels with the same precision as the portable units.
TAC-Scan Drive-Over will be offered in a standard duty configuration for vehicles up to 10,000lbs GVW and a heavy duty configuration to handle medium and heavy duty truck including tractor trailers.
The standard duty is scheduled for delivery 1st quarter of 2010 with the heavy duty version to follow.

TAC-Scan is a revolutionary way to measure, track and maximize tire tread life.
TAC-Scan utilizes a patented laser system that records up to 660 tread depth measurements, which are analyzed using software to produce custom reports in a simple to understand format.
TAC-Scan is available in three configurations to meet the most demanding shop’s requirements.
The handheld and floor models offer complete portability; while the new drive-over version is designed for gas island installations, drive thru customer service lanes and fleet applications.
Chicago-based Tire Profiles Inc. and its sister company in the U.K., RL Automotive Ltd., introduced the Tac-Scan, a tire tread diagnostic tool.
The lightweight, portable, battery-powered device measures more than 600 points across the tread in less than five seconds to offer a non-contact way of obtaining consistent tread measurement and detecting tread problems before they can be seen, the companies said.

TAC-Scan provides tread depth analysis
Tire Profiles Inc. of Chicago has developed a laser-based tire tread and wear scanner called TAC-Scan that will be available in the first quarter of 2009.
The laser/software system has been used in motor racing for the past five years. It provides non-contact measurement of the tire tread, while the tires are still mounted, to analyze, diagnose root-cause problems and trend tire performance. It can scan 600 points across the tire tread, which are then analyzed by computer software that produces a printable report.
The scanner can be used on all vehicles, including 18-wheeler tractor-trailers, the company said. The scanner is battery powered, lightweight and portable. The handle is designed to scan hard-to-reach tires, such as dual tires on a commercial truck. The head scans a tread in three to five seconds. It can identify out-of-spec tires and suspension alignment needs. It can also be used for time/wear projection of tire degradation, the company said. It has a suggested list price of $4,500.
A dealer can scan a customer's tires, get a report of the tire wear, walk the customer through the analysis and offer advice on the need for replacement, Tire Profiles President Roger Tracy said.
Offering customers a printed report of their tires' condition ``provides a whole lot more credibility and a more loyal customer,'' Mr. Tracy said.
He suggested customers who don't need tire replacements could be offered the option of returning in a few months for a free scan update, thus generating repeat business for the dealership.
SEMA Show 2008 | tac-scan debut
Our debut at last year’s SEMA Show provided an opportunity to see TAC-Scan in … action.
Demonstrations of the F1 and H1 included:
- Scanning setup and measurement process to gauge tread depth in a digital way
- Illustration of scans made
- Analysis and condition of the tread pattern scanned
- On screen visual of the report of scans taken
- Print report of tires scanned
- Management of data for archiving to provide trends of tread pattern scanned in the future on the same vehicle
- Fleet data management of vehicle and tire tread pattern scanned

SEMA Show, Day Three: Tire Profiles unveils TAC-Scan diagnostic tool
Tire Profiles Inc. is advertising its TAC-Scan tire diagnostics tool as "the world's first tire tread diagnostic tool without the human element." The device is on display at this week's Specialty Equipment Market Association Show.
TAC-Scan is engineered to monitor tread conditions, trend tread wear, identify out-of-spec tires and recommend suspension alignment improvements. The lightweight, portable, battery-powered tool -- which has both passenger/light truck and medium truck tire applications -- provides graphic profile reports of scanned treads, while archiving the collected data. It lets techs scan tires while standing next to vehicles.
TAC-Scan scans tire treads in three to five seconds, delivering accuracy of .1 mm and a resolution of 0.01mm. A stand-alone system, it comes with a compatible interface that uses Bluetooth technology.
"It can scan 200 to 300 tires before its battery needs to be recharged," says Roger Meyer, Tire Profiles' manager of sales and marketing.
"We've had a number of retail merchants who've talked to us" about using TAC-Scan, he adds. With it, "they can put someone to work right away."
Announcing TAC-Scan, a revolutionary tire tread diagnostic tool
Date: Tuesday, December 16 @ 00:00:00 EST
Topic: Cool Parts Info!!
Tire Profiles Inc. in Chicago and its sister company in the UK, RL Automotive Ltd, have jointly developed the innovative TAC-Scan tire tread and wear scanner.
TAC-Scan will be distributed in North America by Tire Profiles Inc. TAC-Scan, (Tread-Analysis-Condition-Scan), is patented worldwide. First production unit deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2009.
New to the market, Tire Profiles introduces laser diode measurement technology to shop and fleet tire diagnostics. Through a special laser/software combination developed from expertise gained in Formula 1 racing, tire diagnostics are now possible using scientifically derived data.
This laser/software package makes non-contact measurement of tire tread and wear both accurate and reportable. TAC-Scan provides a totally new method to analyze, diagnose root-cause problems, and trend tire performance.
TAC-Scan has been used in motor racing over the past five years. TAC-Scan has projected tire performance failure to accuracies of one in a 73-lap race. TAC-Scan capability has been developed in this fast action environment and with continual software development it is able
to analyze tread condition and predict tread performance.
Designed with the operator in mind, TAC-Scan is battery powered (rechargeable), lightweight, and portable. TAC-Scan is easy to use, provides graphic profile report of scanned treads, and archives the data.
This tool allows the operator easy access for the scanning of tires while standing next to a vehicle. Innovative handle design adjusts to address hard to reach tires such as dual tires on a commercial truck. The control module is quick to setup for ease of scanning tire tread and recording the data. The head scans a tire tread in 3 to 5 seconds delivering accuracy of 0.004” (0.1mm) and a resolution of 0.0004” (0.01mm).
TAC-Scan is a stand-alone system, with a compatible computer interface via internal blue tooth or a USB memory stick. TireProfiles has built TAC-Scan to withstand the rigors of shop and field use by incorporating double strength aluminum and high density impact plastics. Its laser sensor travels on a polished aluminum rod system which is sealed from dirt and water. Both the control and sensor head have (NEMA5/IP52 rated) splash resistant seal.
TAC-Scan, detects tread problems before the human eye can see them. TAC-Scan is used to monitor tread condition and to trend tread wear; it identifies critical out of spec tires, and recommends suspension alignment improvements. With current and future scan capability, TAC-Scan can be used for accurate time/wear projection of tire degradation, extension of tread life and to generate fuel savings.
TAC-Scan improves fleet performance, effectively addresses minimum tread depth concerns, and generates customer confidence and repeat business through tire tread profiling capability. TAC-Scan will generate additional shop work and tire replacement revenues.
“If you can’t measure it you can’t manage it”
TAC-Scan is a consistently accurate tool to measure and analyze tread wear on tires. Date stamping of tread scans, future scans, time/wear analysis provide, for the first time, a truly accurate way to measure tire performance. Through Tire Profiles’ technology, tire and fuel cost have become more manageable.
